Sweet new Spec Fiction on the Horizon

So for anyone who reads my personal blog, you know I just got back from an amazing two days at TLA (Texas Library Association). I was awed and overwhelmed with books, all of which I am excited to read, and I wanted to share for you some of the way cool spec fiction ARCs I managed to snag:

BRAINS FOR LUNCH by our very own K. A. Holt – Yay!!!!! – Middle school is tough—but it’s even tougher when you’re a zombie.

(I did love this almost completely non-staged snag of the BRAINS FOR LUNCH ARC)

MATCHED by Ally Condie – This is pitched as a dystopic TWILIGHT. I’m about halfway through and really enjoying it.

BLACK HOLE SUN by David Macinnis Gill – I loved SOUL ENCHILADA and I can’t wait to dive into this one.

ALIEN INVASION AND OTHER INCONVENIENCES by Brian Yansky – Not only is Brian a very nice guy, Cynthia Leitich Smith claims this book is the best thing since the Apollo missions.

LINGER by Maggie Stiefvater – I loved SHIVER and can’t wait to read LINGER!

THE REPLACEMENT by Brenna Yovanoff – Something’s rotten beneath the town of Gentry – I adore this cover!

THE ETERNAL ONES by Kirsten Miller – What if love refused to die? – Sounds sweet!

BRAIN JACK by Brian Falkner – Anyone else read and enjoy THE TOMORROW CODE? I did. This isn’t a sequel but it’s the same author.

THE MARBURY LENS by Andrew Smith – The sales repped talked this one until I had to have it. I love the concept.

NIGHTSHADE by Andrea Cremer – She can control her pack but not her heart

THE MUSEUM THIEVES by Lian Tanner – MG with a kick-butt cover!

THE STEPS ACROSS THE WATER by Adam Gopnik – I adore the cover and the concept. It reminds me of a cross between GREGOR and (actually) my book, THE EMERALD TABLET.

HALO by Alexandra Adornetto – Good angels. I’m  liking this concept already.

XISLE by Steve Augarde – In a drowned world, everybody wants to get to the island. Oooohhh! This reminds me of a YA RAIDERS’ RANSOM

DEAD BEAUTIFUL by Yvonne Woon – A guy named Dante. Sounds very cool.

THE SPACE BETWEEN TREES by Katie Williams – I can’t quite put my finger on what this is about, but I’ve been looking forward to reading it.

Okay, there are even more, but this is a nice start.

Any of these or any other not yet released that you guys are particularly looking forward to?

pjhoover_casual1 PJ Hoover figures it’s a good thing she enjoys reading!

  1. I’m really looking forward to MATCHED and LINGER, but I hadn’t heard of any of the others. Many sound exciting. Thanks for the list!

  2. Natalie Aguirre

I can’t wait to read Linger. I haven’t heard of the others, but many sound interesting. I’m glad to see some middle grade ones on the list (what I write right now).

  3. Sounds like some good books! The Museum Thieves in particular sounds like a fun one…but then, so do almost all of them…except the ones that sound interesting instead, like The Marbury Lens…

  4. The characters in The Museum Thieves sound like fun kids. I’d love to hear what they get up to.

  5. Oh man. Thanks for the heads-up. I’ve definitely got to add some of these to my goodreads shelf. Brains for Lunch? Awesome!!!! Alien Invasion and Ohter Inconveniences? I am so there.

    Can’t wait – I love reading MG.

  6. LaWanica

So lucky! Honestly, that cover of MATCHED is achingly beautiful. I could care less what it’s about. Twilight/Dystopian mashup? Why go with one trend when you can have both, I suppose… I wonder if there’s a book out there that’s like the Hunger Games with the romance of Shiver, and the world building of Incarceron. But with Unicorns. Is that asking too much? Okay, I’m totally being snarky, but I couldn’t help myself. They all sound like good reads. ;-)

    • The cover is very cool, LaWanica. it’s funny because the ARC cover is black with only text blurbs on it from people at the pub house. I am guessing they will print more ARCs with the real cover soon.

And no, that is not too much to ask. Bring it on!

  7. NIGHTSHADE by Andrea Cremer – She can control her pack but not her heart

    Wow, that’s a great one-liner!

  8. Oh these all sound fantastic! What a heap of fun.
